Health Spas
Health Spas first originated as a way of treating illness by bathing - in fact many health spas originally focused on using hot and cold water treatments and massage via moving water to cure patients. Health spas involve the practice of ‘balneotherapy’ which use mineral waters in hot baths and natural vapour baths to cure ailments and replenish the body. The term “Health Spa” is sometimes confused with “Beauty Spa” - however they are not the same thing as both health spas and beauty spas offer different services - although they can occasionally overlap.

Health Spas and Beauty Spas
Whilst Health Spas focus on curing ailments and physical health, Beauty Spas such as Waterfall Spa focus on relaxation and pampering. Health spas do not have this type of focus - in fact most health spas tend to centre more on curing physical conditions rather than relaxation and enjoyment. There can however be some overlap between heath spas and beauty spas in terms of the services that they offer - for example at Waterfall Spa (although we are not a health spa) we do offer many facilities which are similar to those a health spa would offer such as the Hydrotherapy Pool and Tropicarium.

Choosing between a Health Spa or Beauty Spa
When choosing between a health spa or beauty spa, it is important to decide what you are looking for from your visit to a spa. For example, if you are mostly concerned with your health and curing a physical ailment then a health spa might be the best choice because health spas clearly have this type of focus. However, you might be looking more for a relaxing experience where you can get away from the stress of everyday life and indulge yourself - if this is the case, then a health spa is probably not the answer - but a beauty spa such as Waterfall Spa is what you are looking for. Unlike a health spa, Waterfall Spa focuses on giving visitors an experience of relaxation and indulgence, although they do still offer facilities and treatments that you might find in a health spa.

What to look for in a Health Spa or Beauty Spa
When you've decided between a health spa or beauty spa - you'll need to look for a spa that you feel can meet your requirements. When choosing a health spa, look at the particular facilities that they have and find out which ailments they are good for helping. If you're not looking for a health spa, and want to choose a beauty spa, look for a spa with a great reputation such as Waterfall Spa. We provide an experience of relaxation and pampering and we were recently voted “Most Luxurious Spa in Yorkshire” by The Times.
